S is for Stars in Space: Activities

                                                         You're a STAR!

Music: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star,    Zoom Zoom Zoom,   The Space Song   

Books by Usborne: What are Stars?    Sun, Moon Stars        How Big is a Million?

Gross Motor: Have an All Stars game (ie basketball tricks)    

          Hop from a hula hoop to another hoop like jumping on the moon or from planet to planet. 

          Stand on a star and do yoga poses or 'star' jumping jacks

Fine Motor:  Trace the Letter S.    Do a dot-to-dot star or rocket drawing.   Draw stars in the sand.

Science: The sun is our star. Label the planets that are revolving around the sun.

            Explore a sea star.  Place it in a bin with sand and water for a sensory activity!

            Glow in the dark stars  How do stars generate light?

Math: Counting stars.      Arranging stars according to size     Counting 1-5 (five points of stars)

Art: Sparkles on a Star Magic Wand with streamers.  

            Create popsicle stick stars. Paint them after the glue dries.

            Use star shapes to make patterns. They can be overlapping sizes/materials/textures/colours

Sensory: Draw white chalk stars/space scenes on black paper.

             Sensory bottle with blue water, sparkles and stars. Seal it and shake.

             Moon sand and tools to explore.  Want to make your own? 1 part (baby) oil: 8 parts flour

             Add stars or sparkles to a baggie with hair gel and double bag it for sensory play

Writing Prompts: What would you take if you were traveling to the moon?  

             Tell the (imaginary) story of how a star was named after you.  

             Write about an interview with an astronaut or a star (celebrity)

/S/ sound:  Create tongue twisters like Seven silver stars sang softly. 

              Play /S/ sound games like bingo with words like star and space and satellite.  

              Create a star sticker chart for successful S sound productions (eg. 10 trials of sand= 1 star)

              Practice the ssssssssss of star.  How long can you hold it for?
