Q is for Qualities: Themed Activities

Q is for a quota of quartz from the quarry! But rocks is next week's theme, not today's.         I considered the quandary the quadruplets found themselves in when they ALL wanted to qualify as the team's quarterback. That would make up a good story as would a recollection of 'quashing the quarrel between the quail' but these didn't fit my thoughts for today's blog. Another thought was reaching a quorum to begin the quiz of quality questions about kings and queens but they were covered under 'K'.

So, for today I settled on the theme: Q is for Qualities.  The activities are predominantly scenario based as they are not tangible items you can manipulate.

Have a race to practice the quality of being QUICK and discover who is the most QUALIFIED to go on to the finals.

Go on a QUEST to discover hidden qualities in you, to find treasure or to attempt acts of bravery characteristic of knights

Play a game of hide and seek and find out who can be QUIET for a long time.

Visit a QUAINT village and learn about life 100+ years ago.

Have fun being silly and showing off your QUIRKY talents such as touching your tongue to your nose.

Share your pearls of wisdom or best joke to become the most QUOTABLE person in the room.

Create a cheer to demonstrate your QUENCHLESS spirit for your team.

Try to make a gross QUEASY-inducing science experiment.

Evaluate your QUIXOTIC dreams before acting impulsively on such impractical ideas using a pros/cons list or a brainstorming chart for potential outcomes..

Practice positivity to demonstrate that you do not have a QUIBBLING or QUARRELSOME nature.  Make peace signs as a reminder!

Research the best QUALITIES of any person of interest to you.  What are the qualities of a good teacher or of a best friend? What qualities do you need to become a police officer or a scientist or an Olympic champion? Discuss whether or not you personally possess those qualities and if they remain elusive, Question what you can do to grow in that area and build those skills. For example:  A queen needs diplomacy.  A quarterback needs consistency. A quality control inspector needs to be analytical. Prepare a Venn diagram of the different qualities required of a queen compared to a quarterback.

People often avoid Q as a challenging letter but really there is a lot to talk about using Q words.  Have fun with the child(ren) in your life as you explore Q and build their literacy skills along the way.
